A coalition of non-profit organizations (Idaho Office for Refugees, Gates of Hope, Glocal Ministries, and BRYT) serving youth from families arriving to Boise through refugee resettlement, has partnered with Boise Schools to provide tutoring and support for junior high and high school students in the Magnolia neighborhood during "virtual days,” and after school. Collister UMC partners with this coalition, known as School Academic Support (SAS) in providing space, WiFi and other resources to provide a successful environment for students. In addition, CUMC members have enjoyed providing hospitality in a number of ways including lunches and after school snacks!
LEAP Housing Solutions
Collister UMC recognizes the current housing crisis spreading throughout the Treasure Valley. In response, our congregation decided to build two units of affordable housing on church property. To accomplish this, Collister UMC partnered with LEAP Housing Solutions, a local non-profit working to solve the affordable housing crisis in Idaho. The church has the land and the desire to help with the affordable housing crisis, but we have no experience building houses. Fortunately, LEAP has the experience and the expertise to work with the city, raise the necessary funds, and to design and build the homes. This has been such a lifegiving partnership. And we hope to break ground on this project in June of 2021.
