SERVING PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS AND FACULTY
IN THE COLLISTER NEIGHBORHOOD

Just down the street, our neighborhood school provides an education and important resources for some of Boise’s most vulnerable students. With 98% of Taft students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, and nearly 40% coming to Boise through refugee settlement and immigration, our church seeks to partner with the Taft families and staff to remove barriers so all students might thrive in their learning and becoming.

STAFF APPRECIATION

Each staff member is prayed for and receives notes from someone at Collister UMC. We also raise fund to surprise the staff every-once-in-a-while with treats and coffee from Slow River Coffee Truck!

MENTORING

The mentor program at Taft is very strong and provides a way for adults to build friendships with individual students during school time.

TURNING PAGES

Collister UMC developed Turning Pages in cooperation with Taft Elementary and other faith organizations and schools in Boise. This YouTube series features Boise community leaders sharing their favorite books with elementary-school-aged children. Collister’s team has also created Art video lessons and resources for each episode. Check out the link to Turning Pages Season 1: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR9VLYxI5wXsGNe6u9KU59A

CLEANING PRODUCTS ONGOING DRIVE

Taft Elementary school is also a Boise Schools Community School, which means they provide resources not just to the students and families of Taft, but also to the whole surrounding neighborhood! Most of the resources are covered by other groups, but they have a continual need for cleaning products such as dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels and all-purpose cleaners. Collister UMC is on it! Bring supplies to worship on Sundays as we help stock our neighborhood school with the needed items!

ENRICHMENT CLASSES

These fun classes are held for Taft students during lunchtime and are a way to teach a fun skill, craft or game! Contact Pastor Jenny to see how you can get involved in sewing classes, yoga, cooking classes, as well as develop other ideas you might have!  [email protected]
