During Lent, Collister UMC has a unique opportunity to read and discuss a book that has not yet been published. This book, written by Dr. Mark Smith, History Professor at College of Idaho, will allow our church to engage in a journey of exploration, a study-tour of sorts, traveling back to Jerusalem and events surrounding Jesus’ trial and crucifixion. “The Final Days of Jesus” manuscript will be used as sermon themes on Sundays, with chapters discussed in small groups through the 6 weeks of Lent. In addition to being a historian and archeologist, Dr. Smith is also a Presbyterian minister and has worked with another pastor to develop discussion questions to help us (the readers of the book!) draw out some of the theological ideas and practical applications of each chapter. Dr Smith preached the first sermon in this Lenten series on Sunday March 9th.

There will be 3 “types” of study groups offered:
          1. Groups who will read the chapters ahead of time, and answer questions within small group time. This group
will also make editing notes/ideas for Mark Smith
         2. Groups who will read the chapters during group time and have discussions or answer one question during
             small group time
         3. Groups who will receive a ½ page synopsis and will meet to discuss questions

Groups will be held once a week during the weeks of: March 10th - Easter (6 week study)

At Collister United Methodist Church, we occasionally have photos and videos being taken of events to celebrate the moments.
